Durban – A 37-year-old paraplegic, Viven Naicker, reportedly passed away earlier this week after a long battle with cancer.
He was a business analyst, who owned several companies in the retail, financial and medical industries.
According to TimesLive, the man from Durban, who was regularly in hospital since July, bought a Ferrari when he was told by doctors in January to go home and arrange palliative care.
“Palliative care? Nah, I am going to buy a Ferrari and live my best life,” TimesLive quoted what Naicker told the doctors in a reply to their advice.
“Growing up for many of us in our communities, a Ferrari was an impossible target. So I said if I am fighting an impossible battle, I am going to drive an impossible-to-achieve car. Let me enjoy what little time I have left.
“Being a former motorsport competitor, I got to enjoy the thrills of being on the edge, whether it’s on four or two wheels. After being stripped of everything that mattered to me, I am grateful that I can still enjoy the pleasure of driving so I bought the impossible for the impossible.
“I want to approach my journey differently. When they tell you you’re going to die, what do you do? To see my mother’s face, for her to stomach such information, it eats me up. But I have to keep positive. I can roll over and play dead or I can enjoy what’s left,” he said at the time.
Entrepreneur
Starting his own business while a teenager, Naicker went on to own multiple businesses in the financial and medical spheres. A former financial advisor, Naicker was one of the youngest Principal Franchisees in the country when he was diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer. His diagnosis made him the youngest documented case in the world at the time.
#UNSTOPPABLE
Time Live also reported that after he beat stage 4 prostate cancer in 2015, he decided to write a book titled #Unstoppable. The book is being sold in paperback form on Amazon.
“#Unstoppable is the story of ultimate courage and hope in the face of absolute despair. It tells the story of a young man who had the world at his feet when life brought him to his knees. With all the odds stacked against him, he did what was considered impossible – He Survived.
“In a world where we have been conditioned to be victims of our circumstances, this is one story that will change the perception of every person who ever felt there was no hope left. It will reignite the fight inside you and motivate you to understand the resilience we have all been blessed with.
“Ultimately, this story is one that reveals how real God is in all things. It is proof of his plan and purpose for every life created and will restore the faith of millions,” the description of the book read on Amazon.
