Cape Town – A 37-year-old mother and four children, including a two-week-old baby, were reportedly killed when the house they were sleeping in caught fire on Saturday evening in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to IOL, Zanokuhle, two weeks old, Onge, 2, Noluthando, 9, Anathi, 9 and their mother Bongekile Mthembu, 37, were sleeping when they were rescued from a burning house by neighbours.
The five were rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment of inhalation and burn wounds before being transferred to the hospital, where they died.

News24 reported that the provincial government announced on Monday that two more family members who died in the house had been identified – Thobeka, 31, and Ayabonga, 7 – bringing the total number of deaths to 7.
“A team of social workers was immediately assigned to provide psycho-social support, trauma debriefing and trauma containment to the bereaved family and neighbours following their ordeal,” the report quoted Social Development Spokesperson Mhlaba Memela as saying.
