Cape Town – The Home Affairs Department has successfully restored the State Information Technology Agency’s mainframe, resolving a technical issue that caused a partial crash.
The incident on Wednesday affected access to the National Population Register, leading to disruptions in services such as passport and identity document applications.
The system was reported to be back online by midday on Thursday, with a standby team in place to monitor and address any potential issues promptly.
“We do have a team on standby who will monitor and make sure that the solution is lasting and if there are problems that they are able to quickly attend to them, ” spokesperson Siya Qosa.
