Cape Town – The Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture has been granted another extension by the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria to finalise its report.
This came after the commission chairperson Chief Justice Raymond Zondo approached the court last week for a six-week extension to finish the last part of the report.
According to Times Live, the final instalment of the report was, by court order, due at the end of April. However, the Chief Justice said the commission would not be able to deliver all the outstanding sections of the report by that time.
He, therefore, asked for an extension – this time to June 15.

“Unfortunately, although we have covered a lot of ground in March and April in terms of further work on Part IV of the report, we have not been able to complete all the remaining topics that must be covered and will not be able to do so by the end of April,” Zondo stated at the time according to News24.
He said the delays so far were not a result of neglecting the work of the commission but because “over three years the commission heard a lot of important evidence that needs to be analysed and taken into account”.
The Citizen reported that there was no opposition to the extension.
Judge Anthony Millar said he was satisfied with the case made by the commission to be granted another extension, the report said, adding that the remaining topics to be covered by the commission included the SABC, the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa), the Gupta’s infamous landing at Waterkloof Air Force Base in 2013, and the State Security Agency (SSA) and the Free State’s Estina dairy farm project.
The commission has been running since 2018 after being appointed by former president Jacob Zuma.
Since then, more than 300 witnesses have given evidence before the commission.
Due to many challenges, including the ones brought by Covid-19, the commission had to be granted extensions.
