Cape Town – A 73-year-old man shot and injured two individuals during a home burglary in Richmond Hill, Gqeberha.
Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said in a statement that the incident occurred on Tuesday around 8:40 PM on Lutman Street when a 73-year-old man, who was asleep, was awakened by noises in his home.
“The complainant had his firearm with him when he went to investigate. He noticed three suspects inside the house in the passage approaching him.
“The complainant fired two shots at the suspects, two suspects were wounded, and one suspect fled from the scene,” Van Rensburg said.
Quick action by a private security company and Metro police led to the apprehension of the wounded suspects, aged 31 and 37, she said.
The two suspects were later hospitalised for their injuries.
It was found that the suspects had gained entry by removing a window from the front bedroom.
No property was reported stolen, and the resident was unharmed.
Police are investigating the incident, which includes charges of housebreaking and attempted murder.
