Durban — The South African Weather Services (SAWS) have issued a level 6 weather warning for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and parts of the coastline for Thursday and Friday.
SAWS issued the severe weather warning and said disruptive rain was expected in KZN starting on Thursday evening until Friday at midnight.
“A cold front is expected to pass through the eastern parts from tomorrow accompanied by a ridging high resulting in persistent widespread showers and thundershowers over the south-eastern parts until Friday evening,” SAWS said.
SAWS added that significant rainfall was amounts were expected to lead to flooding of roads and settelements, with damage to housing and infrastructure.
The inclement weather was expected to impact roads, buildings and settlements due to flooding, danger to life, disruption of traffic flow and essential services and possible mudslides.

According to The Citizen, the elvel 6 warning will apply to areas along the coast including Margate, Port Shepstone, Ballito and KwaDukuza.
Other areas warned to prepare for heavy rainfall include:
- Umzumbe
- Umuziwabantu
- Umtentweni
- Southport
- Pumula
- Mathulini
- Ifafa
- Scottburgh
- Luthuli
- Umgababa
- Durban
According to TimesLIVE, the eThekwini municipality urged residents to exercise extreme caution and maintain safe distances on the wet roads. The municipality’s disaster management and emergency services are on standby and are monitoring the forecasts.
