Cape Town – The National Department of Health has urged calm despite a rise in rubella cases in South Africa, with 10,137 confirmed infections recorded between January and November 2024.
Most cases involve children under 15, with Gauteng and the Western Cape being the most affected provinces.
“There is no need for the public to panic, but members of the public are urged to present themselves or their loved ones with suspected rubella symptoms without delays for early detection, effective treatment and to prevent further transmission,” the department said.
