Cape Town – A Dale College Boys’ High School pupil in the Eastern Cape, Liyabona Teyise, 18, reportedly died after sustaining a head injury on Saturday in a collision during a rugby match.
According to Sport24, Teyise was on the school’s first rugby team.
At the time of the incident, they were playing against Port Rex Technical High School’s first team in East London, Eastern Cape, the report said.
Teyise briefly lost consciousness during the match. However, he was able to walk off the field to seek medical attention from the pitch-side medical team.

Teyise later had difficulty breathing and he collapsed.
He was rushed to Frere hospital where he was assessed with a CT scan which showed extensive bleeding on the brain, said the report.
He was pronounced dead on Saturday night.
“Teyise is remembered as a well-behaved, polite, and diligent learner. Chairman of the RCL, he conducted himself thoughtfully and with a reserved humility. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our prayers are with his family and the entire Dale College community in this time of loss,” said the School in a statement.
The tragedy came after the school mourned the loss of another pupil a week ago.
The pupil, 17, was also a first-team rugby player.
Lisakhanya Lwana'[s body was found on the R63 between Qonce and Masingata on Sunday, April 3, according to IOL.
Lwana was a victim of a hit-and-run accident, the report added.
