Cape Town – A 54-year-old poultry farmer, Hemmilton Khambana, was shot and left for dead on the Mpheleng main road in Limpopo.
The incident occurred on a Friday night around 8 pm, as the injured farmer tried to flag down passing vehicles on the Mpheleng main road.
A motorist who stopped to help saw Khambana and heard more gunshots, prompting a quick escape.
Subsequently, the driver swiftly departed, leaving Khambana on the roadside. Upon reaching a safe location, the motorist contacted the police.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said that law enforcement promptly responded to the incident. Upon arrival, along with Emergency Medical Services, they discovered Khambana deceased, lying in a pool of his own blood with gunshot wounds.
“He was certified dead at the scene,” said Ledwaba.

Police investigations led them to a nearby poultry farm where Khambana was the owner.
The caretaker said that two armed suspects had demanded money, and Khambana was robbed before being chased and fatally shot.
“The caretaker alleged that two suspects armed with firearms came into the farm and demanded money.
“After a short space of time, the owner of the farm arrived driving in a white NP200 Nissan without noticing any suspicious activity.
“Immediately when he alighted from his vehicle, he was approached by a suspect at gunpoint,” Ledwaba said.
He said that the alleged perpetrators were accused of robbing Khambana, seizing an undisclosed sum of money.
“The victim ran on foot towards the main road but one of the suspects chased him, while the other one remained at the poultry farm. After a while, the second suspect then went to the vehicle and searched it before fleeing on foot,” Ledwaba said.
Police have opened cases of murder and business robbery.
