Cape Town – The investigation into the shooting of a man from Pretoria, Len Cloete, allegedly by a police officer, is still on hold as Cloete is still “unable to speak”.
Cloete was shot in the head on November 21 last year while on vacation at the Misty Hill country hotel in Muldersdrift after he was in an altercation with police officers.
After surviving the shot and spending considerable time in the ICU, he was released and is now being taken care of by his wife and caregivers.
According to IOL, Independent Police Investigative Directorate spokesperson, Lizzy Suping, this week confirmed that the police officer in question had still not been charged.
“The status quo remains. The victim still has to be interviewed,” she said.

Meanwhile, the lead investigator at Specialised Security Services, Luke Enslin, who was assigned to handle the case said that there has been no progress in Cloete’s medical condition.
“He still is unable to speak. Investigators can’t move forward with investigations because he still isn’t able to give his side of the events,” Enslin said.
He said that Cloete’s wife had a special unit built at their home for him, and he has caregivers.
The Citizen reports that Private investigator Mike Bolhuis has requested the public to respect the privacy of the Cloete family during this period.
“This is a very serious and sensitive case, and we ask the public not to engage in spreading rumours or false stories about him.
“This is a very difficult time for his family and we need to give them space to recover from the shock and trauma.
“We are all praying that he makes a full recovery and that we can go on with this investigation in due time,” the report quoted Bolhuis as saying.
