Reports indicated that anti-gang unit members tracked the alleged gunman to a hideout in Ravensmead later that same night.
A report by People’s Post said that a 42-year-old man accused of his murder was out on bail for rape at the time of the shooting.
“The perpetrator was in prison for a rape case and had other cases that were withdrawn. We will see where we failed and rectify that dockets to also be placed on the court roll,” the report quoted Colonel Dawood Laing, station commander at Grassy Park Police Station as saying.
The alleged suspect was expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
