Cape Town – A suspect who has been under the Hawks’ investigation for three years will be presented in court on Monday following his arrest at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport while attempting to escape the country.
According to Times Live, the Hawks spokesperson, Captain Bonnie Nxumalo, revealed that the suspect is facing a fraud charge for allegedly using fake documents to secure vehicle finance at a dealership in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
He managed to acquire a vehicle valued at over R1.1 million before the dealership discovered the fraudulent documents and non-payments.
Subsequently, the case was handed over to the Hawks’ serious commercial crime investigation team, resulting in the issuance of a warrant for the suspect’s arrest.
