Cape Town – Former Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda’s fraud case has been postponed to January 28, 2025, for a trial readiness certificate.
Gwamanda, accused of defrauding Soweto residents through an alleged funeral policy scheme, appeared at the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The charges stem from a Financial Sector Conduct Authority investigation revealing he allegedly operated an illegal business in 2012.
Gwamanda, an Al Jama-ah councillor, surrendered to police in October 2024.
While the NPA claims a strong case, his lawyer asserts his innocence.
Gwamanda was dismissed as Community Development MMC by Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero last month.
