Cape Town – Minister of Communications, Mondli Gungubele, has reassured recipients of social grants that they will continue to receive their money despite recent turmoil at Postbank.
The chaos began when a technical glitch in Postbank’s payment systems left thousands of pensioners and social grant beneficiaries unable to access their funds.
Following this, five board members resigned, citing an “oppressive and hostile” attitude from Gungubele.
Gungubele said that the changes in Postbank’s leadership would not affect grant payments and that the technical issues had been resolved, ensuring that payments for the next month would proceed without hindrance.

“We wish to ensure social grant beneficiaries and the nation that the changes in the Postbank board will not have an impact on any of our operations or the capacity of the Postbank,” The Citizen quoted the minister as saying.
He said that Postbank has communicated to the department that all affected Sassa grant beneficiaries’ accounts have been rectified. He assured that the glitch would not impact next month’s payments.
“We will start the October payments in less than two weeks. We have started preparing to ensure we do not encounter the challenges that were experienced this month. Our officials will continue engaging to make sure we are ready to pay on time next month.”
