Cape Town – A 69-year-old woman and two children aged, 10 and 13 years, were reportedly killed instantly when lightning struck their home on Wednesday in the Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal.
According to IOL, parts of the province experienced weather conditions that uprooted trees and damaged both public and private infrastructure.
A fourth person was injured and was rushed to the hospital for treatment, EWN reported, adding that the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department had dispatched disaster management teams.
“MEC Hlomuka has assigned disaster management teams to provide support to the family. Hlomuka has also appealed to the residents across the province to continue to heed the warnings as they are issued by the South African Weather Service,” the report quoted the spokesperson for the department Senzelwe Mzila as saying.
