Cape Town – The Gauteng education department says a Grade 12 pupil from Sandringham High School in Johannesburg survived an alleged kidnapping attempt on Friday, according to reports.
The department said that a white Chevrolet sedan with four men apparently drove past the 18-year-old girl and one of them allegedly tried to drag her into the vehicle.
“However, she reportedly fought the armed man off and screamed, which alerted bystanders and scared the suspects into fleeing the scene,” News24 quoted department spokesperson Steve Mabona as saying.
The matter was reported to the Sandringham police station, the report said.
According to EWN, the department said that the pupil received trauma counselling.
The incident took place just a few days after two grade 10 pupils from a high school in Waverley, Pretoria, were found unharmed after they were allegedly kidnapped and drugged after school, according to Times Live.
“The pupils were allegedly attacked by two men in a Mini Cooper, who allegedly forced them into the vehicle and coerced them into taking drugs,” the report said.
