Cape Town – Parents reportedly stormed Thaba-Jabula Secondary School in Pimville, Gauteng on Friday following the arrest of a grade 9 learner who allegedly stabbed to death a grade 10 learner over an alleged bullying incident.
According to IOL, the learners got into a fight during break time on Thursday.
The grade 9 learner was reportedly defending his younger brother from being bullied by the deceased grade 10 learner.
During the fight, he allegedly stabbed the learner four times before fleeing the scene.
An educator quickly rushed the stabbed learner to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he died at around 17:00 while receiving medical attention.
The grade 9 learner was then arrested.

Times Live reported that Gauteng’s department of education dispatched psychosocial support officials to provide counselling to learners and teachers at the school early on Friday. However, that wasn’t a success due to some parents storming the school, demanding the release of learners.
“This process could not go ahead as some parents stormed the school demanding the release of learners. Subsequently, the school has been dismissed for the day because some learners began fighting among themselves,” the report quoted Gauteng education department spokesperson Steve Mabona as saying.
Gauteng’s Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi condemned the violent incident and further urged parents to allow the school to resume on Monday.
“We always encourage learners to report incidents of bullying so that disciplinary action is taken against perpetrators. Revenge cannot be a solution. This is to appeal to parents to allow schooling to resume on Monday so the necessary support is provided to the school community,” said Lesufi as quoted by the report.
