Cape Town — Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, may have to face the music soon as the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has been called to probe the collapsed SAA deal.
Gordhan had threatened to take legal action if the SIU was called to investigate the failed 1% takeover with Takatso Consortium. The SIU was called to investigate as parliament believed the deal was not completed “above board”.
According to the chairperson of the portfolio committee on public enterprises, Khaya Mgaxa, they have done what they could do and now the report is in the hands of the two parties. He did not say when the report would be referred to the House, IOL reported.
“The process of taking the report of the committee pertaining our investigation on the allegations against the minister is now in the hands of the speaker’s office and the programming committee of parliament. It’s no longer in our hands. It’s in their competency to decide as to when it’s going to be tabled in the House,” Magaxa said.

Many committee members said they stand with Magaxa’s decision as he was the chair of the committee, and that any decision made was not his, but that of the whole committee.
The committee had been trying to get Gordhan to appear before it since last year after former Director-General in the department Kgathatso Tlhakudi alleged that Gordhan was implicated in wrongdoing.
Gordhan refused to share any details of the agreement between SAA and Takasto, citing confidentiality, and that it would expose SAA to its closest competitors.
