Cape Town – A teenage girl has been arrested in connection with the murder of her mother and a manhunt has been launched for her male accomplice.
The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday night at Lesedi Park in Polokwane, Limpopo.
According to police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo, it is alleged the girl conspired with an accomplice to kill her 44-year-old mother who was “denying her freedom”.
“The girl allegedly met the suspect in her residential area on the outskirts of Polokwane and had a conversation in which she reportedly told him that her mother was denying her freedom and that she wanted to get rid of her,” said Mojapolo.
He said the two then proceeded to her house and waited for her mother.
On her arrival, the two assaulted the woman with a frying pan and strangled her to death before dragging her to the bedroom.

“The case of murder was opened and during preliminary investigations, it came to light that the young girl conspired with the suspect to kill her mother because ‘she wanted her own freedom,” said Mojapelo.
The teen was arrested and charged with murder while a manhunt for her accomplice was launched.
“The 16-year-old girl appeared in the Polokwane magistrate’s court on Friday on a charge of murder and the case was remanded to April 4 for further police investigations,” said Mojapelo.
Police called on ‘Lebalang’ to avail himself at the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
