Free State – A medical doctor, Simon Ngcobo, from Welkom was attacked and robbed of cellphones and cash at gunpoint in his home, before being kidnapped and murdered on Monday, October 17.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Stephen Thakeng, the two suspects were armed as they forced their way into the family’s home.
“The 27-year-old wife went shopping with her two daughters aged 2 and 5. On their arrival at their home in Doorn Welkom, while busy parking the vehicle inside the garage, the wife apparently heard her five-year-old daughter screaming for help and the wife saw an unknown male pointing a firearm at her child. A second male was also seen armed with a handgun,” Thakeng said.
He said that as the doctor opened the door, the two suspects forced themselves inside the house.
Ngcobo tried to fight back but was overpowered. The suspects then took an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe. The doctor was forced to drive off with the suspects in his white Renault Duster sedan with Free State registration numbers.
