Cape Town – Job seekers in the Western Cape will soon be able to travel by bus for free on their way to job interviews.
The province launched the testing phase of its Getting YOU to Work free voucher initiative in Cape Town on Thursday.
The travel vouchers can be used on any Golden Arrow Bus Service, on weekdays from 8am to 4pm, it said. The vouchers are only available from employers participating in the programme and to jobseekers who have secured an interview with the employer.
During the launch, Western Cape Premier Winde and Mobility Minister Mackenzie joined the first jobseekers to make use of the voucher, as they attended an interview in Athlone.
Today, we launched our jobseekers transport voucher in Athlone – a pilot project offering jobseekers free travel to interviews with registered employers using Golden Arrow Bus Services. We are serious about Getting You to Work! 👨💼🚌👩💼

Latita Memani, a 20-year old student from Cape Town said: “I managed to get to the interview today without spending money and without borrowing money from my parents.”
Winde said at the launch: “One of the biggest hurdles reported is the cost of transport, especially for those who live far away from economic hubs. I encourage entrepreneurs and businesses to register to become a participating employer. By making the travel voucher available to jobseekers, employers can have their pick of the very best candidates that the Western Cape has to offer.”
The programme, which is part of the province’s Growth 4 Jobs strategy, will be rolled out provincially if it proves successful in Cape Town.
