Davyeton — Four schoolchildren were killed, and a further five were critically injured after two cars were involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA) in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.
According to IOL, the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson William Ntladi confirmed the horrific crash took palce on the N12 near the Putfontein Raod off-ramp around 7:45 on Monday morning.
“The incident was reported around 7.45 am, and swiftly, the teams responded for intervention,” Ntladi said.
He said the schoolchildren were of different ages and schools and were travelling from Daveyton. He said the incident invovled a double cab bakkie and a Toyota Yaris.
He said one adult woman was rescued from the wreckage using the Jaws of Life and was in a stable condition before she was airlfited to a nearby medical facility..
“Currently, the entire freeway is closed for traffic as rescue teams are busy with rescue and recovery of entrapped patients in vehicles,” Ntladi added.
Motorists were urged to use alternative routes as traffic remained congested.
