Cape Town – Four people were killed after a truck lost control and ploughed into vendors and pedestrians near Maseru Port of Entry on Tuesday.
A case of culpable homicide was being investigated, police said.
Police were called to the “horrific” scene at the port of entry at about 08:00, said police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele in a statement.
“A truck driver allegedly lost control of the truck, causing it to crash into vendors and commuters standing around, eventually crashing into a stationary taxi and hitting more people before ending up in the riverbed at the Port of Entry.” said Makhele.

Four people were confirmed dead and 23 injured, said Makhele
Police said the injured were taken to a Ladybrand hospital.
“All emergency personnel and police were called to the accident scene. The driver of the truck was critically injured and also taken to hospital,” said Makhele
The accident came shortly after 20 people died and left 60 injured, following a crash between an armoured truck and a bus in South Africa’s northern province of Limpopo.
