Free State – A 72-year-old grandmother from Petsana near Reitz was overcome with shock after she discovered her four grandchildren locked inside an old car.
According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, Police reportedly received a complaint about children being trapped inside a car.
“On arrival police found three boys and one girl laying next to a silver Volvo S40 sedan and all four children were already certified dead,” Mophiring said.

The kids were allegedly last seen playing outside at about 11:30 under the supervision of their 72-year-old grandmother. According to the statement, the granny went to look for them, but could not find them until around 16:30 when one of the family members found them in the old car unconscious.
“They tried to open the doors but the doors were locked from the inside until they forcefully opened it and took all four children out and called the emergency personnel.
“Upon arrival the EMS certified all four children: Lesedi Mnguni (3), Jwalane Goodness (3) who are cousins residing at the same address and two other cousins Lerato Donald Tshabalala (2) and Mojalefa Mokoena (4) dead,” Mophiring added int he statement.
An Inquest case has been opened for investigation.
