Cape Town – Former South African Ambassador to Germany and former Minister of Education, Professor Sibusiso Mandlenkosi Emmanuel Bengu, has passed away at the age of 90.
The family confirmed in a statement that Bengu died peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday.
The family remembers him as a dedicated husband, father, educator, and public servant.
“The family would appreciate that their privacy be respected at this difficult time,” Bhengu said.
Bengu was born in Kranskop, KwaZulu-Natal, and had a distinguished career in education, including founding Dlangezwa High School and earning a PhD in Political Science.
He later served as Vice-Chancellor of Fort Hare University, Minister of Education, and Ambassador to Germany.
Funeral arrangements will be shared later, and the family requests privacy during this time.
