Gauteng – Two accused, Gretta Nozuko Nxusani (62), Nozuko Nxusani (PTY) Ltd, and former Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) employee, Mbulaheni Robert Madzonga (67) appeared before the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on December 6. 2022 on charges of theft and fraud and were granted R10 000 bail each.
According to South African Police Service spokesperson, Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo, Madzonga was responsible for incorrectly authorising payment of just over R12 million.
“It is alleged that on 3 March 2010, Madzonga deserted his job description by authorising Nozuko Nxusani (PTY) Ltd to conduct legal service at the (MTN) and authorised payment of approximately R12.3 million to the very same company knowing very well that they did not render the services that they were contracted to deliver,” Nxumalo said in a statement.

“An internal investigation was conducted within the company and the matter was reported to the Johannesburg based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on 10 August 2017 for further analysis.”
Nxumalo further reported that additional investigation revealed that Madzonga is linked to the VBS corruption case and is also an alleged beneficiary of this current fraudulent activity.
The accused handed themselves over to the authorities on December 6, after a warrant for their arrest had been issued.
After being granted bail of R10 000 each, the matter was postponed to February 15, 2023, for further investigation. The money is yet to be recovered.
