Cape Town – Former McDonald’s employee Clement Othusitse Seothaeng, 27, was reportedly sentenced to 10 years in prison on Wednesday by the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court after he recorded himself spitting into an ice cream at work, and demanded money from the manager to avoid leaking the video.
The incident happened in 2017.
According to IOL, Seothaeng, who is originally from Pampierstad in the Northern Cape Province, worked as a crew member for the fast-food chain at one of their Montana, Pretoria outlets for two years.
On September 23, 2017, while on duty, Seothaeng allegedly took a short video of himself preparing a Mcflurry ice cream, which he spat on before mixing it up and closing it.
Seothaeng’s face didn’t show in the video, it was just a person wearing a uniform.

The clip was then sent, allegedly by Seothaeng, to the manager using a different number, The Citizen reported.
Seothaeng pretended to be a concerned customer that demanded R150 000, to avoid video circulation on social media.
“The Manager reported the matter to the police, immediately a trap was set up and Seothaeng was arrested a few days later, on September 29, 2017. During the aggravation of the sentence, Prosecutor, David Molokomme asked the court to impose a sentence that will serve as a deterrent to people who use social media for anti-social behaviour for undue benefits,” the report quoted National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) Lumka Mahanjana as saying.
Seothaeng was sentenced to 10 years in jail for extortion, and five years for malicious damages to property. His sentences run concurrently, according to IOL.
