Cape Town – South Africa has temporarily closed the Grobler’s Bridge border crossing with Botswana due to heavy rainfall and flooding.
The crossing, vital for trade, particularly for miners in Zambia’s and the DRC’s Copperbelt region transporting goods to Durban, was shut to ensure safety.
Border Management Authority northern region commander Peter Mpilo explains why South Africa temporarily closed Grobler’s Bridge into Botswana and other neighbouring countries due to heavy rains, affecting travel and trade routes to the DRC, Zambia and Tanzania.

The Border Management Authority, after consultations with Botswana officials, advised travellers and truck operators to use alternative routes.
The affected crossing is in Limpopo province, which experienced significant rainfall last weekend.
