Cape Town – KwaZulu-Natal community members who live near the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park fear for their lives after a 45-year-old woman was reportedly injured by one of the two white rhinos that escaped from the park.
The Witness reported that residents spotted the rhinos wandering around houses, causing damage to the fences before one of them reportedly attacked the woman.
“The woman was inside her yard when a rhino ran through the fence and went straight at her. She was injured on the leg and was rushed to hospital,” the report quoted a resident as saying.

“Reports indicate that she fell as she was running from the rhino that had been shot at by a community member,” the report quoted Mntambo as saying.
According to a community committee member, Msizi Myaka community members shot at the rhino because the helicopter dispatched for the search was “taking long”.
“They were trying to protect the pupils. They were shooting at it because there was nothing else they could do. It was running all over the place,” the report quoted Myaka.
