Cape Town – Police in the Free State arrested a 39-year-old farmworker on Thursday for allegedly attempting to murder a 62-year-old woman on a farm in the Trompsburg district.
In a statement, police spokesperson Warrant Officer Loraine Earle said the alleged incident occurred on July 4, 2022.
“She (victim) was inside the house when she allegedly came across a farm worker going through drawers. Upon seeing her, the suspect grabbed, strangled and assaulted her then fled the scene.
“The victim was taken to a hospital in Bloemfontein for medical treatment. An attempted murder case was opened for investigation,” said Earle.

A search for the suspect was launched.
Through a collective effort by a team of investigators from Trompsburg, Sringfontein and Colesberg the suspect was found and apprehended in the Colesberg district on July 14, 2022.
The suspect was scheduled to appear in Trompsburg Magistrates Court on Monday, July 18 on attempted murder charges.
