Cape Town – A 22-year-old suspect has been arrested for allegedly murdering a one-year-old toddler in Zuma View, Bela Bela in Limpopo on Sunday.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the toddler’s mother was outside the room around 1pm when the suspect, a family member, entered and allegedly strangled the sleeping child.
The toddler’s grandfather intervened, but the child later died at a nearby hospital.
“The grandfather of the toddler was called for help, and pushed the suspect away. The child was taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention but was later pronounced dead,” Ledwaba said.
The suspect is due to appear in Bela Bela magistrate’s court on a murder charge, and investigations are ongoing.
