Cape Town – Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, founder of the IFP (Inkatha Freedom Party), is anticipated to celebrate his 95th birthday at home, as those close to him are optimistic about his recovery.
He has been hospitalised for additional treatment following a back pain management procedure.
While originally planned to be a routine stay, complications arose, extending his hospitalisation.
However, his spokesperson Liezl van der Merwe reported that he is steadily progressing and expressed hope that he will be able to spend his birthday outside the hospital, Times Live reported.

“Prince Buthelezi continues to make steady progress under the supervision of his medical team in hospital. We remain hopeful that his birthday will not be spent in hospital,” the report quoted Van der Merwe as saying.
The family plans to provide a formal health update on Buthelezi’s condition in the coming week, she said.
His 95th birthday falls on August 27th.
The IFP recently said that Buthelezi was responding well to treatment in the hospital.
“I can say without any hesitation, from the latest information I got this morning – umntwana WakwaPhindangene (the prince of KwaPhindangene) in hospital,” EWN quoted IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa as saying.
