Cape Town — The South African Weather Services (SAWS) urged residents to prepare for extreme weather on Monday as it announced various weather warning levels throughout the country.
SAWS issued level warnings 2-6 throughout a number of provinces including Gauteng, the North West, Free State, Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) with adverse weather and strong winds expected, The Citizen reported.
A Yellow Level 2 warning was issued with damaging winds expected for the northern interior part of the Eastern Cape and between Hondeklip Bay and Cape Agulhas. Additionally, damaging waves and winds are anticipated, potentially causing disruptions to ports and harbors between Cape Agulhas and Plettenberg Bay in the morning.
Dispruptive rain is expected between Koukamma and Kouga municipalities in the Eastern Cape.
There are also severe thunderstorms expected in the north-east of KZN, as well as parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

A Yellow level 4 warning was issued along the Garden Route in the Western Cape with Orange level 5 winds also expected in the region, as well as the Karoo Hoogland municipality in the Northern Cape can also expect strong winds.
Orange level 6 rain that could lead to disruptive flooding of roads is also expected in the Cape Winelands and Overberg Districts of the Western Cape in the morning.
Residents are urged to take heed of the warnings and ensure that if they need to travel, they keep a safe following distance and adhere to strict driving rules.
