Cape Town – At least 95 000 residents in Tshwane are reportedly facing a power outage after a voltage transformer exploded at the Babelegi substation.
Eskom is working to restore electricity, with six substations affected and repairs ongoing, The Citizen reported.
Affected areas include Mathibestad, Makapanstad, GaMotla, and others.
While there’s no estimated time for full restoration, Eskom hopes to resolve the issue soon.

“Six substations affected. Voltage transformer exploded at Babelegi substation and also a conductor and fourt insulators damaged at one of the main line.
“Areas affected are Mathibestad, Makapanstad, GaMotla, Eersterus, Stinkwater, Dilopye, Suurman, Majaneng, Sekampaneng, Mashimong, Bridgeview, Kudube, Temba, Rens, Hans Kekana and Hammanskraal West.
“We do not have an estimated time for restoration of electricity at this moment, however, we anticipate that supply will be restored to most areas today,” the reort quoted spokesperson Daphne Mokwena as saying.
Eskom has apologised for the inconvenience and assured residents of their efforts to swiftly resolve the problem.
