Cape Town – Former Eastern Cape traffic officer Fanele Nxuseka, 38, was reportedly sentenced to life in prison by the Eastern Cape High Court on Wednesday for the murder of his HIV-positive girlfriend.
According to IOL, Nxuseka, a married man, was having an affair with the deceased who did not disclose she was on antiretroviral treatment (ARVs).
In May 2020, upon discovering that his girlfriend was HIV positive, Nxuseka believed she might have infected him and his wife. He then went to his girlfriend’s home in Ngobozana, in Lusikisiki, and demanded she leave with him.
The girlfriend alerted his sister that she might not come back alive.
Indeed she did not.
Her family went looking for her after she did not return home.
Her body was discovered in the nearby Mmangweni Village. She had been shot several times, the report said.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that Nxuseka used his state shotgun to commit the atrocity.
Nxusani was arrested the next day.
The court agreed with the NPA that the fact that he was a law enforcement officer made him a candidate for the harshest sentence, that is life imprisonment, SABC reported.
Nxuseka was sentenced to a further 12 years imprisonment for kidnapping.
