Cape Town – Police rescued an Ethiopian businessman kidnapped outside a Norwood restaurant on Sunday.
During an intelligence-led operation on Monday, officers traced him to a house in Kensington, Johannesburg, where a shootout occurred, leaving one kidnapper dead and five arrested, police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said.
Vehicles, luxury watches, and jewelry belonging to the victim were recovered.
“Vehicles used in the commission of the crime were seized, and some items belonging to the victim have been seized, including luxury watches and jewellery,” Mathe said.
Authorities also seized four illegal firearms, including an AK-47.
Mathe added that “Just last week, police destroyed R340 million worth of drugs in Cape Town. These were drugs that were seized during operations. In the last three years, police have destroyed drugs worth R5.2 Billion.”
