Cape Town – eSwatini’s police commissioner, William Dlamini, passed away at OR Tambo International Airport while waiting for a flight back to eSwatini on Saturday.
Dlamini had recently attended an Interpol regional meeting in Angola and collapsed and died at around 04:00 while waiting to board his flight.
His death was confirmed by Acting Prime Minister Mgwagwa Gamedze.
“Government has learnt with shock the news of the passing National Police Commissioner William ‘Tsitsibali’ Dlamini in the Republic of South Africa this morning,” said Gamedze.
He added: “The Kingdom of Eswatini has lost a brave, humble and loyal servant of Their Majesties and the Nation.”

Dlamini’s death coincided with the expiration of his contract as the police boss, reports said.
eSwatini, Africa’s only monarchy, is ruled solely by King Mswati, who appoints the prime minister, cabinet, and judges.
Political parties are banned in the country, and activists have been calling for democracy and the unbanning of political parties, but these efforts have faced resistance as King Mswati tightens his grip on power.
