Cape Town – Eskom has temporarily suspended load-shedding in Ulundi and nearby areas to accommodate the funeral of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the founding president of the IFP and AmaZulu prime minister, who passed away last Saturday.
This decision was made in response to a request from the Ulundi local municipality to facilitate the category 1 state funeral.
“Eskom KZN has granted the exclusion of affected installations within Ulundi local municipality from load-shedding during the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s funeral.
JUST IN: Eskom will suspend load-shedding in Ulundi and Nkonjeni to allow the funeral of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi to go smoothly. Nkonjeni, some 15 kilometres from Ulundi, is where the home of Buthelezi is located. The exemption starts today and will run until Saturday. @IOL

“The municipality requested the exclusion to accommodate the category 1 state funeral for the late Prince Buthelezi. The exclusion will be from 5pm this evening (Thursday) until 6pm tomorrow [Saturday],” Times Live quoted Eskom as saying.
While this exemption will aid funeral preparations, contingency plans have been made in case of any load-shedding, the power utility said.
Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the eulogy at the special official funeral.
Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya confirmed this during a press briefing on Thursday.
