Cape Town — Eskom will now fall under the newly-merged Electricity and Energy Ministry and the utility’s board chair, Nteto Nyati, said he expects a seamless transition.
After President Cyril Ramaphosa announced his new cabinet, he revealed that the Public Enterprises Ministry, which was headed up by Pravin Gordhan, was disbanded. The Electricity and Energu Ministry was now combined and is led by Kgotsientsho Ramokgopa, who had turned Eskom’s fortunes around during his tenure.
As far as Nyati was concerned, he understood that Eskom would now fall under the new ministry and he believes, after 97 days of no load shedding, that Eskom’s performances will continue to go from strength to strength under Ramokgopa’s leadership, EWN reported.
“We believe if that is the case, there is going to be a seamless transition because this is somebody we have worked with for a very long time – the whole of last year – and he gets what we are doing, and he has been quite supportive. So has DPE [Department of Public Enterprises], by the way, we have worked very well with them.”
Eskom is improving across a number of areas like revenue growth, load shedding, debt levels, attracting & retaining talent, OCGT usage and consequence management. #DanMarokane #Eskom #KeepGoing
