Cape Town – Police have rearrested one of the two convicted rapists who escaped from the Ngqeleni correctional facility in the Eastern Cape last week.
Siyabulela Khohliso and Athini Mzingelwa, who were serving sentences of 10 and eight years each for rape, allegedly escaped from the prison’s sports field on Freedom Day.
According to the Department of Correctional Services (DCS), Khohlisa was recaptured in Libode area and transferred to the Mthatha Correctional Centre, reported IOL.
DCS spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo said all efforts were now focused on finding Mzingelwa.
EWN reported that DCS had since deployed additional resources from emergency teams to assist in the recapturing of Mzingelwa.

The report said 10 officials who were on duty on the day of the escape had been suspended.
DCS National commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale, who visited Ngqeleni Correctional facility on Monday, said the investigation was ongoing and more developments were expected to ensue, reported IOL.
People were urged to contact the nearest police station if they came into contact with Mzingelwa.
