Cape Town – An elderly woman and her two grandchildren died in a fire at their house in Parkgate in Kwa-Zulu Natal over the weekend.
According to Reaction Unit SA (RUSA), residents contacted them at approximately 22:29 after they discovered the informal home engulfed in flames. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched and on arrival, were informed that the occupants were trapped in the house.
The Ethekwini Fire & Rescue Services arrived shortly thereafter and extinguished the blaze. They recovered four bodies from the rubble, with another unidentified female body also discovered in the ruins.
RUSA said that the circumstances leading up to the fire had not yet been established.
