Cape Town — The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) visited Gauteng’s top-performing school, Lefhereng Secondary School in Soweto, and donated R100 000 as part of the party’s campaign to support schools in need.
Lufhereng achieved an outstanding 100% matric pass rate and an equally impressive 97% Bachelor pass rate for its 2024 matric class. This was made more impressive as the school still operates with mobile classrooms. The EFF said the donation was made during an oversight visit by the party’s leader, Julius Malema, TimesLIVE reported.
“The EFF Gauteng will continue to advocate for the resolution of the systemic issues within the education sector. Through public representatives, the organisation remains resolute in ensuring all learners have access to quality education, that school admission policies are equitable and that no child is left behind,” EFF Gauteng chairperson Nkululeko Dunga said.
The EFF also visited Relebogile Secondary School, the worst-performing school in Gauteng. The school achieved a low 57.5% matric pass rate in 2024 and the party was concerned about the school’s poor state, including poor infrastructure that has posed a big problem to teaching and learning.
“The conditions make it nearly impossible for learners and staff to focus on education,” Dunga said.
The school is currently using mobile classes after a sinkhole affected the school premises in 2023.
The EFF committed to providing Relebogile with essential resources to improve the conditions around the school premises which includes water pumps to restore running water, more bathroom facilities, air-conditioners, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits and cleaning supplies.
