Durban — Police are investigating a potential homicide case after an on-duty policeman was shot while in his vehicle in Durban.
The incident took place in the Ntuzuma area outside Durban on earlier this week. According to a statement by KZN Police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a 39-year old police officer was allegedly in a state vehicle when an unknown man opened fire on the vehicle, wounding him, IOL reported.
“The suspect fled the scene when he noticed the officer withdrawing his firearm. The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his stomach and left arm,” Netshiunda said.
This incident follows another one, after a 48-year-old Warrant Officer was killed by an unknown man who entered his yard to drink water and shot the officer, who was rushed to hospital, but died on arrival.

Meanwhile, police have arrested two suspects linked to the murder of Sergeant Riyadh Adams have been shot dead in KwaMashu, eNCA reported.
Adams was killed outside the Pavillion Shopping Centre in Durban last week after responding to a robbery at a jewellery store at the mall.
According to News24, Hawks spokesperson Captain Siphiwe Mhlongo announced that they had arrested a 41-year-old suspect in connection with the murder and business robberies.
He said the suspect “led the police to KwaMashu to point out his accomplice and, during the process, a shootout occurred”.
