Durban — A Durban police officer has reportedly not faced any disciplinary action and remains at work despite threatening to shoot and kill his commanding officer.
The incident occurred at the Durban North police station, and it is believed that the officer in question is facing charges of attempted murder and assault, for pointing his firearm at his commanding officer, EWN reported.
The officer allegedly stormed into the office of his commanding officer, locked the door behind him before he spat at his commanding officer, drew his weapon, cocked it and pointed it in his face. A captain, who was present at the time, attempted to intervene and get the matter under control, but he was struck with the butt of the firearm in the ensuing scuffle.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed charges of attempted murder and assault had been opened against the officer, and that the matter is currently still under investigation.
It is understood the officer remains at work.
This is the 2nd incident within the week involving Durban law enforcement after a Metro officer was struck by a taxi driver while on patrol. The officer is currently in hospital recovering from his injuries, while the taxi driver was arrested by Metro police, with SAPS and Metro police set to investigate the matter further.
