Cape Town – A video of a visibly drunk KwaZulu-Natal police officer being helped up by a group of schoolchildren has gone viral on social media.
In the video, the officer in full uniform, with his service pistol dangling on his hip, can be seen holding on to a pole before falling on his back.
He is then helped to stand on his own two feet by one of the school kids, whom he thanks before the video ends.

His pistol was confiscated for “safekeeping”, the report said.
A departmental investigation has since been registered against the sergeant, The Citizen reported.
Meanwhile, the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) said: “We are, as a union, concerned about the negative imagery that has been portrayed of policing in the country. It is important for members to conduct themselves in a manner that inspires confidence among communities because, if we are to have an impact in fulfilling our constitutional mandate of keeping South Africans safe and secure, there needs to be good working relations between police and communities.”
