Cape Town – Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party made sure their voices were heard, as they picketed outside of Hanks Olde Irish Pub in protest of the alleged racist incident that took place at the drinking establishment recently.
A concerned citizen, Christopher Logan, confronted the owner when he found out that his friend, Thabiso Danca was denied entrance into the pub because the bouncer allegedly told him he could not enter without being accompanied by a white person, which according to the security guard was an instruction from management.
Logan’s confrontation with the owner was caught on camera and went viral on social media.

Responding to the incident, EFF Western Cape released a statement saying it “abhors the racist incident”.
“This racism reveals the psychosis of many white racists who are still locked in a racist paradigm of white exclusivity and the old days of Apartheid nostalgia,” the party said.
“This is not an individual or isolated case, but both a structural and endemic phenomenon whose roots could be traced back to colonialism and apartheid heritage and spatial planning that has long sought to confine black people in the townships, in perpetuity, far away from the economic activities of the city,” it added.

The EFF Western Cape said it wrote to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) regarding the racist incident.
The owners of Hanks Olde Irish Pub denied the allegations of racism levelled against them. In a statement, the pub said its owners and staff “have received direct threats of intimidation, violence, damage to persons and property.
They also confirmed that they have laid charges against Logan for “physical assault” hiring renowned criminal defence attorney, William Booth to help them fight the case and the allegations levelled against them.
“The owners of Hanks Olde Irish Pub wish to once more state categorically that in the past 30 years of operating businesses in Cape Town, as well as, a registered NPO, we as the owners, have never – nor have we ever instructed our staff – to discriminate on any basis whatsoever, whether that be gender, sexual orientation or race.
