Cape Town – Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, has condemned the fatal shooting of a deputy principal from Rivoni Secondary School at Chris Hani Mall on the East Rand.
The educator was attending a meeting related to a colleague’s case when he was shot.
Chiloane expressed heartbreak over the incident, offering condolences to the family, colleagues, and school community.
“The Gauteng Department of Education extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and the entire school community. The GDE has activated psycho-social support services for those affected by this tragedy.

“We are heartbroken by this senseless killing of our dedicated educator and leader in our education community. Our deepest sympathies are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Chiloane said.
In a separate incident, 42 learners were involved in a scholar transport accident earlier in the week, the department said.
Two sustained fractures, and six others were injured.
“We are deeply concerned about the wellbeing of the affected learners, and we will ensure they receive the necessary medical care. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this challenging time and we wish the learners a speedy recovery,” Chiloane said.
