Cape Town — The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) announced the official fuel price changes for December, and motorists can expect increases across all fuel grades.
The latest data has revealed that 93 and 95 unleaded petrol has increased by 17 cents per litre, 0.05% Diesel increased by 54.88 cents per litre, 0.005% Diesel increased by 55.88 cents per litre while illuminating paraffin also increased by 48.88 cents per litre, the Department confirmed.
The department confirmed that the adjusted fuel prices are due to several international and local factors including Crude oil, international petroleum prices, and the rand/dollar exchange rate.
The Department revealed that the average Brent Crude oil price decreased by 73.28 dollars to 72.70 dollars a barrel during the period under review.
“The main contributing factors are the OPEC+ decision not to increase production in December and increased production from non-OPEC countries amid stagnant economic growth globally,” Department spokesperson, Thabisho Kgaditsi, said.
International petroleum prices were affected by lower demand, a switch to cheaper winter gasoline and higher inventories. Diesel and illuminating paraffin increased due to a higher seasonal demand. The rand also depreciated on average (R17.53 to R17.93 to the dollar during the period under review.
