Cape Town – Three suspects wanted for at least ten murders were fatally shot in a shootout with police in KwaDlangezwa, Empangeni, early on Friday morning.
This incident follows the fatal shooting of a suspected ATM bomber by police in Esikhaleni, KZN, the previous day.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Stabilisation Team, part of Operation Vala uMgodi, acted on intelligence to locate the suspects.
Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said that when police announced their presence, the suspects opened fire, prompting a return of fire from the officers.

“The suspects, who were also alleged to have been involved in the ATM bombing incident in Esikhaleni which left one suspect fatally wounded on Thursday, were found in possession of at least two firearms. The crime scene was yet to be properly searched for more exhibits,”Netshiunda said.
This week, a total of seven suspects have been killed in various shootouts with KZN police, including three suspects involved in the 2023 murder of a police sergeant in northern Durban, The Citizen reported.
