Cape Town — The Provincial and Violent Crime detectives revealed that life insurance policies may have been the motive behind the death of Noem My Skollie actor, David Manuel and his friend, Alfonso Fisher.
Manuel and Fisher were fatally shot in Gugulethu on 8 October 2024 and police are now looking into the incident surrounding the death of the two men. Police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg, said two suspects, a male and a female aged between 30 and 40, were arrested in connection with the murders, a statement said.
“The suspects will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court on charges of murder and fraud on Thursday, 14 November 2024. The possibility of more arrests is not excluded,” Twigg said.

According to The Citizen, Manuel was most well-known for his role of playing “Freddy Gums”, the leader of the 28s prison gang in Noem My Skollie. During filming, he was currently out on parole after he had spent nine years behind bars.
He won the Best Supporting Actor award for his powerful performance as the hard-nosed Freddy Gums, while Noem My Skollie won the Best Film Award at The African Film Festival (TAFF) in July 2017.
As reported by IOL, Gugulethu CPF spokesperson, Linda Kabeni, said they were concerned about the increase in murders linked to life insurance policies. He had asked the police to be ruthless in dealing with those who opened a policy to kill.
Western Cape police confirmed that a man and a woman, both between 30 and 40 years old, were apprehended on suspicion of murdering David Manuel and an unidentified friend last month in Gugulethu. #swisherpost

“The state should thoroughly investigate when a drug addict or vulnerable people like those who are physically challenged are shot dead. We have discovered that most of these murders are planned by those who are well-off such as lawyers, doctors and even cops,” Kebani said.
He explained that some criminals obtain information from social media and it was important for the criminals to be brought to book.
